A Project Reset

Burwood Road is a project that has challenged and rewarded us in equal measure.

Set on a steep escarpment site with a BAL FZ classification and major retaining requirements, this custom residential build has required detailed engineering coordination, careful earthworks planning and a highly considered construction methodology. The retaining walls incorporate 54 staggered piers, positioned approximately 1m apart and extending 500mm - 1m into rock, creating a significant structural and logistical challenge on a tight site.

But the work on this project started well before construction.

Our clients came to us with a project that was under-thought and over budget. Together, we went back to the drawing board, placing their actual needs at the centre of the conversation and reshaping the project into something the entire team could get excited about.

Working alongside Lyric Architecture and Studio Ferguson, we've brought together architectural vision, interior design and practical construction thinking to develop a project that responds to both the site and the people who will call it home.

The project has progressed under a preliminary agreement through what we call a Project Reset - a collaborative pre-construction process designed to bring scope, budget, design and client priorities back into alignment before construction.

The site has been challenging. The collaboration has been rewarding. And we're excited to see this one continue to take shape.

If you're planning a build on a challenging block, we'd be happy to hear what you've got in mind.
